CMSD News Release - Cassie Hall Elementary School Principal Retirement - July 31, 2025  (pdf format)

Coast Mountains School District wishes to announce the retirement of Darlene Bragg-Hounsell, Principal at Cassie Hall Elementary School effective July 31, 2025.  It is with mixed feelings that we share Darlene’s retirement, however, we are in full support of her decision to assume a well-deserved retirement and to spend time with her family.

Darlene joined the school district in August 2006 in the role of Principal at Cassie Hall Elementary School.  In August 2012, Darlene was appointed to the role of Principal at Thornhill Primary School which she held for nine years before assuming the roles of Vice Principal and Principal respectively at Skeena Middle School in August 2021 and August 2022.  Darlene returned to Cassie Hall Elementary School in the role of Principal in August 2023, a position she currently holds.

During her tenure with the school district, Darlene has demonstrated strong leadership and collaboration skills to develop innovative programs to ensure success for all learners.  She is a highly respected educator by students and colleagues alike for her love of teaching and the countless hours towards the advocacy for early learning and literacy education.  Her work in schools has always portrayed an emphasis on putting students first, teamwork, building positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the community with an understanding of and respect for local Indigenous culture, language and history.

The school district is grateful for Darlene’s long-term service, her many significant contributions and the dedication and passion in her profession she has provided over her nineteen years of service.  Darlene’s legacy will be sadly missed by all within the school district including the many connections and relationships she has forged with all staff.

Our very best wishes are extended to Darlene and her family in their future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Tracey MacMillan
Superintendent of Schools
